At Emmaus we are all about providing a unique shopping experience. Whilst it’s always great for our customers to know that by shopping with us they are helping someone back onto their feet, we love to hear how the items you buy have made a difference to you.
Here are some lovely pieces of feedback we have received recently:
“It was good to meet you recently and many thanks for linking me up with the right personnel to arrange collection of my mother’s furniture. That was successfully achieved on Thursday of last week. Jim & Simon came in good time and it was lovely to meet with them and have good conversations. May I record my sincere thanks for the service both of them provided. It was pleasing to hear from Simon that he is going on holiday soon to Glasgow, something he is really looking forward to.
Very satisfying to know that Emmaus is giving hope to the companions and that perhaps some of my mother’s donations can help with much needed funds to continue your excellent work.”
“Just to say a huge thank you for the furniture and kitchen items.
Im overwhelmed at the kindness and service…..and would like to express my deepest thanks to all concerned.”
“I am writing to say a very big THANK YOU for all your generous help last Tuesday in providing and delivering a bed to our Member who had been homeless and was moving into a Housing Association flat without ANY furniture! He was delighted with the bed, and we managed to find him other basic furniture to manage until he settles and can get the rest of his furniture.
We greatly appreciate all your support and help.
Many thanks and every blessing on your wonderful work”
“After my visit to Emmaus today, I really felt I wanted to express my gratitude for the kindness and warmth that I received from you and your team, in particular from Roy, Daveed and Ian. I also felt that I would share my story with yourselves and others who should know just what a difference this charity has made to my life.
I have been in an utterly desperate situation for over a year. Having suffered with mental health issues and addiction problem I spent my 20’s on the streets of Cardiff before being offered a place at a rehab centre in Weston Super Mare back in 2007. After many years of abstinence during which I gained a degree and worked (as a kitchen porter) to support myself, I fell back into addiction and with it came a serious decline in my mental health. Having always worked I found that when I approached the DSS for help, I was put onto ‘contribution based ESA’. This meant that I was not eligible for any grant or budget loan to buy clothes, furniture or any of the basic essential items and appliances needed to cook or wash clothes. I have spent a year in an empty house sleeping on a urine soaked mattress that I found abandoned on the streets desperately trying to find support to get back on my feet. I took advantage of any and all help offered by addiction agencies and was allocated both a key worker and mental health worker. Despite their every best effort they were unable to find the help I needed. As a result my mental health continued to worsen.
By pure chance, after calling into a charity shop I was pointed in the direction of Emmaus in Bristol. Having explained my situation I was contacted by Gaynor who said that they were keen to help and saw me the very same day. I felt a little ashamed and anxious about the visit, but was made to feel comfortable and welcome from the moment I walked through the door. I felt obliged to choose the cheapest looking bed and mattress but Roy and Daveed went out of their way to make sure I got one of the smarter ones. I now have a bed, kitchen utensils, sofa a rug and various bits and pieces but more than that; I feel a sense of self respect and hope for the future. I simply don’t believe that I could have gone on much longer the way things were and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
“Just got a delivery of lovely furniture from Emmaus Bristol. Really amazing value, super service and a great cause.”
