On a Wednesday in early October, some twenty-five staff from the Bristol and Cardiff offices of Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) arrived at Emmaus Bristol, raring to go.
Every year the Staff Team at PWC in the West and Wales region choose a local charity to support, and spend a day committing their skills and time to serve their chosen charity in very hands-on, practical ways. This year Emmaus Bridgend and Emmaus Bristol were the fortunate recipients of this boundless energy and enthusiasm!
PWC had chosen the theme of “Employability” for their “One Firm, One Day” initiative, and were looking for an organisation that was helping get people back into work. They were also looking for opportunities for reciprocal sharing of skills, and for getting involved in a diverse range of activities.
It would be true to say that expectations were not disappointed on either side!
The collection van’s round included a pick-up of donated furniture assembled at PWC’s Bristol Office, naturally with a PWC member of staff working as part of the van crew.
As a result of their visit, our Bedminster shop received a much-needed redecoration, our Barton Hill shop was re-organised to give a better layout, some extra pieces of re-furbished furniture emerged from the workshop, more books went on sale on the Emmaus Bristol Amazon site, our Accounts Manager received some greatly appreciated top end spreadsheet coaching and at the end of the day we all sat down together and ate a splendid meal in the Community.
The less said about the 5-a-side football match before supper the better, but we are hoping for a re-match. Suffice it to say that the referee has been reported to FIFA.
