Abbe Pierre Passing

Abbe Pierre died on 22nd January 2007 at the age of 94. In an opinion poll shortly before his death Abbé Pierre was voted the most popular person in France. He founded Emmaus in Paris in 1949 when, as a member of parliament he was disturbed by the post-war poverty and homelessness in the city and the inability of officialdom to help. He resolved to take direct action and the Emmaus movement is the result. Various books by or about the Abbé Pierre are available and those interested in finding out more could also type his name into an internet search engine.

Sailing Course

Three of our companions have recently completed a sailing course. Adrian has completed his Class 2 Mike and David have completed their Class 1. It was a good weekend in the floating harbour and they enjoyed it so much that they thought they would capsize the boats and go for a swim. Mike had to be told by the harbour-master that swimming wasn't allowed. There were a few bumps and bruises to go along with the sunburn they managed to acquire. They are now looking to get in some sailing time in our dinghy before going on to do the next level of their sailing courses.
